The Netherlands have kickstarted their Nations League campaign on a high note, defeating Poland 1-0.

The Dutch national team hosted Poland at Johan Cruyff Arena, and Steven Bergwijn scored the only goal of the game.

Both the teams had their chances in the first half, with Frenkie de Jong getting denied by the post and Jasper Cillessen making a crucial save against Polish striker Piatek.

However, it was Bergwijn’s goal that decided the game after being set up by the right-back Hans Hateboer.

The goal marked his first for the senior team while he had already bagged three goals with Spurs in the Premier League last season.

Frenkie de Jong and Marten de Roon had a good game to remember as Poland found it hard to get past them. Both players also offered their help in offensive phases when needed.

Dwight Lodeweges would be a happy man after winning his first game in charge. The 62-year-old has been appointed as the makeshift manager as a replacement for his predecessor Ronald Koeman. Koeman parted ways with the Dutch national team to become the new manager of Barcelona.

The Netherlands, who ended up as runners up of the previous edition, will face Italy in their next Nations League fixture.
