The Rising Sun pub on Fulham Road was the origin of Chelsea on March 10, 1905. It was directly across from the present Stamford Bridge stadium main entrance. They were elected to the Football League easily and began competing in the first division.
1904, Stamford Bridge was acquired by Gus Mears, who turned it into a football ground. A year later, Mears founded the Chelsea football club. Club has been part of the first division league of England and represents themselves in European leagues too.
Chelsea made their first FA Cup final appearance in 1915 and was again semi-finalists in 1920 and 1932. During the 1930s, they stayed in the First Division but were relegated after that, finally moving back to the first division.
The club has seen tons of notable managers and players, yet they struggled in the early years. Chelsea won the first division cup in 1954-55, followed by the league cup in 1964-65. The team ended up winning many cups, and eventually, in 2012, they landed their hands-on UCL.
Chelsea has been home to many legendary players since its foundation. Players like Peter Osgood and Bobby Tambling led the foundation of Chelsea in its early days. Since then, the club has seen legends like Jose Mourinho, Steve Clarke, Pat Nevin in the Chelsea crest. John Terry ended his career as the most successful captain of Chelsea.
Frank Lampard is the all-time top goalscorer with 211 goals, while Petr Čech has the cleanest sheets (202) in the club’s history. Ron Harris holds the record for most appearances(795).
Chelsea’s arch-rival is Arsenal. The London Derby is the name given to their long-running rivalry. Chelsea has won 64 games compared to 76 for Arsenal, with 58 draws. Didier Drogba, a Chelsea hero, has scored the most goals in the London derby. Both teams have met in the final four times, with each team winning two times.
