Dortmund 1-5 Stuttgart: Dortmund thrashed at home as defensive woes continue

Lucien Favre-Borussia Dortmund

Gio Reyna’s first-half equaliser was cancelled by newcomers Stuttgart, who racked up four goals in the second half.

Borussia Dortmund have suffered a humiliating 5-1 defeat by ruthless Stuttgart, who produced a top-notch performance in the second half.

The visitors were handed a penalty in the 26th minute after a foul by Emre Can, which then allowed Wamangituka to give his side the lead from the spot.

Dortmund responded not long after as young sensation Gio Reyna scored a header from Raphael Guerreiro’s cross.

Stuttgart looked on a different mission as they reestablished the lead at the start of the second half, with Wamangituka completing his brace. The 21-year-old striker has been in scintillating form in Bundesliga this season, racking up seven goals and three assists. Today’s brace also marked his second in a row after doing so in the Stuttgart’s 2-1 win over Bremen.

The newly promoted German side went on to punish the clueless Dortmund more as they added two more goals in no time.

Reyna almost pulled back one for Dortmund but much to the dismay, the goal was ruled out by VAR.

Stuttgart concluded the game by scoring their fifth of the night, this time it was Nico Gonzalez who found the scoresheet.

Following the defeat, Dortmund have now been winless in the last three games, raising more questions for manager Lucian Favre.

Reyna was the only shining light in an otherwise lacklustre outing for Dortmund while Erling Haaland’s absence was clearly felt once again.
