Macarthur picked up three points after a clinical first-half performance against Jets

Macarthur have defeated Newcastle Jets 2-1 away, with Puyo and Derbyshire finding the scoresheet in the first half itself.

The visitors drew first blood inside the opening ten minutes after Loic Puyo found the nets with a fantastic overhead kick. Not long after, Matt Derbyshire doubled the lead for Macarthur.

Jets found themselves unfortunate after a goal got chalked off in the first half while Angus Thurgate also missed his chance to place the ball into the nets.

However, Valentino Yuel scrapped a goal to give the Jets a much needed momentum right before the half time.

Meanwhile, the visitors had the chance to gain an unassailable lead before Derbyshire’s effort was denied by the woodwork at the stroke of the half time.

Jets were dominant in the second half as they kept Macarthur’s defence busy throughout. But the lack of the conviction in the final third let them down. There was a controversial moment right at the tail end when Aleksandar Susnjar’s cynical handball inside the penalty box didn’t catch the attention of the referee despite Jets’ constant appeal.

Jets have experienced a disastrous start to this season, losing all of their 3 games so far.

Meanwhile, Macarthur are leading the table with 7 points after four matches. They will next face the defending champions Sydney FC later this month.
