Chelsea are close to signing Xavier Mbuyamba on a free transfer this summer.
The 18-year-old centre back is highly rated across Europe and he has been dubbed as the next Virgil van Dijk.
It will be interesting to see how he progresses at Stamford Bridge if he joins the club.
Chelsea need to improve their defensive options this summer but Mbuyamba is highly unlikely to be a part of their first team even if he joins. He is quite young and he is likely to join up with the youth team for now.
Barcelona signed the player from Dutch club MVV Maastricht last summer after rave reviews. The Dutch defender trained briefly with the Blues before joining Catalonia giant. He has now left the Spanish giants in search of more action elsewhere.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea can convince him to join them.
Mbuyamba will be looking to join a club that will help him improve and establish himself as a starter in the coming seasons.
Lampard has given chance to a host of young players this season and that could really tilt things in the Blues’ favour.
Mbuyamba will know that the he will play under a manager who trusts in youth.
With the right coaching, the youngster can develop into a top class defender in the coming years. It would be a superb long term investment from the Blues.
If he can develop him properly, it could end up saving them millions in future.
