Western United

After a disappointing run of two consecutive losses, Western United will look to get back to winning ways when they welcome the A-League defending champions to the AAMI Stadium on Sunday evening.

The hosts were defeated 2-1 by Wellington Phoenix in their last game thanks to goals from Walter Sandoval and Gary Hooper for Wellington Phoenix.

The loss followed a disappointing 3-1 loss to Melbourne Victory and pushed Western United down the table. With 12 points from their opening seven games, John Aloisi’s side are currently sitting in fourth place.

They will look to pick up maximum points from this game to ensure that they stay within the top four ahead of a run of games. Their chances of winning this game remain high, though, given their home record this season.

Aloisi’s men have the best home record in the league this season, having won three of their opening four league home games this season. They have conceded just one goal at home this season and have kept clean sheets in each of their last three games at home.

They will fancy their chances of keeping another clean sheet on this occasion while going home with all three points.

Possible Western United starting line-ups

Jamie Young; Ben Garuccio, Leo Lacroix, Tomoki Imai, Josh Risdon; Steven Lustica, Neil Kilkenny; Connor Pain, Alessandro Diamanti, Lachlan Wales; Dylan Wenzel-Halls.

Injured: Sebastian Pasquali, Rhys Bozinovski

Doubtful: None

Melbourne City

Current A-League defending champions City have begun their title defence with three wins, four draws and one loss in eight games.

They currently sit in second place with 13 points, two points behind their city rivals Melbourne Victory.

They come into this tie on the back of a 3-1 away win over Central Coast Mariners and on a five-game unbeaten run in the league.

With Melbourne Victory not in action this weekend, as their match with Wellington Phoenix has been postponed, a win in this game will take the visitors to the top of the table.

They will fancy their chances of winning this game given their recent record. They will also be desperate to win this game and avenge their last two back-to-back losses to Western United.

Possible Melbourne City starting line-ups

Tom Glover; Scott Galloway, Nuno Reis, Rostyn Griffiths, Scott Jamieson; Aiden O’Neill, Connor Metcalfe, Florin Berenguer; Mathew Leckie, Andrew Nabbout, Jamie Maclaren.

Injured: None

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
