Everton join the race for Barcelona flop Philippe Coutinho

Philippe Coutinho-Barcelona

The Merseyside outfit are the latest to show interest in the Brazilian playmaker.

Everton have reportedly joined the race for Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho, who has been heavily linked with a January exit.

Coutinho has endured a nightmare spell at Barca, failing to live up to the 105m pounds transfer fee the Catalans paid to Liverpool for his transfer in 2018.

Injuries coupled with inconsistency have ravaged his career and Barca are now keen to offload him in January.

Tottenham and Newcastle United are now joined by Everton in the transfer pursuit of the Brazilian playmaker.

According to Sport Bible, the Toffees have contacted Coutinho’s representatives regarding a potential transfer.

The Blaugrana are planning an overhaul but outcasts like Samuel Umititi, Luuk de Jong and Coutinho are proving to be a stumbling block. The Catalan giants have to trim their bloated squad in order to make way for new signings.

Coutinho was determined to revive his career under new manager Xavi but he has failed to make a good impression so far.

The Spaniard continues to prefer young talents like Abde, Jutgla and Nico Gonzalez, meaning that Coutinho is not in his plans.

Furthermore, Barca have made a big breakthrough in the pursuit of Ferran Torres, with recent reports stating the Catalans have reached an agreement for his transfer from Manchester City.

It remains to be seen whether Everton’s project would be appealing enough to persuade Coutinho.

The 29-year-old can rejuvenate his career at Goodison Park and he could be the central figure under Rafa Benitez. However, the Champions League and Europa League spots are not guaranteed as the Toffees sit 14th in the Premier League table.
