Liverpool won the Premier League after Manchester City’s defeat to Chelsea last night and former captain Steven Gerrard has shared an emotional message after the crowning.
The former England midfielder came close to winning the league twice with his boyhood club during his playing days and he has urged the fans to start the long awaited party now.
He wrote: “Congratulations to all @liverpoolfc on winning the premier league. Incredible achievement from a fantastic squad of top players. Lead by a world class manager and coaching team also a special mention for the backing from FSG. And lastly and most importantly the fans who have waited 30 years, let the party begin.”
The Reds are 23 points clear at the top of the table with just seven games left and they will be relieved to have secured the trophy now.
The current Premier League season was suspended back in March due to the current health crisis and there were doubts as to whether football would resume again this season.
Liverpool feared they would be robbed of the title after a sensational season. However, their dreams have now come true after the resumption.
The Reds will now look to win their remaining games and finish the season strongly. It has been a record breaking season for Jurgen Klopp’s side and they can break a few more along the way.
Liverpool have won 28, drawn two and lost just one of their 31 league games this season. After having lose the title to City by just a point last year, the Reds have shown incredible mental fortitude to come back and win it this year.
