Atalanta were clinical in their 3-0 thrashing of table leaders Milan.

Atalanta have thrashed Serie A leaders Milan 3-0 after an exquisite attacking display.

Milan, who have been on a majestic run this season, have been knocked down for the second time following their defeat to Juventus.

The home side looked promising at the start but it was Atalanta who drew first blood after defender Christian Romero netted his header right from Robin Gosens’ cross.

The goal marked the first of the season for the Argentine centre-back, who is on loan from Juventus.

Rossoneri had another forgetful start to the second half when Franck Kessie elbowed Josep Ilicic down, which eventually resulted in a penalty. Ilicic stepped up from the spot to find the back of the nets, allowing Atalanta to enjoy a comfortable cushion.

Minutes later, Milan suffered an injury setback, with Kalulu getting stretched off right before the hour-mark.

Duvan Zapata put the game to bed by tripling the lead for Atalanta in the final quarter.

Atalanta, who were criticised for not being like the last season, have now climbed to the fourth spot in Serie A with the win against Milan.

Elsewhere, Milan’s fairy tale run has stumbled for the second time in this season, with their first defeat coming against Juventus earlier this month.

Rossoneri had both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and new signing Mario Mandzukic on the field but was to no avail in the end.
