Wolves

Wolves’ torrid start to the season continued last weekend as they were beaten 1-0 by Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur despite an encouraging and spirited display in London.

The hosts are enduring a poor start to the season, having lost two and drawn one of their three opening games this season. The major issue for Bruno Lage’s men has been scoring goals as they have scored just once this season.

Last season they finished as the league’s lowest scorers excluding the relegated teams, and the issue which does not look like it has gone away needs to be sorted if Wolves are to avoid getting stuck in a relegation fight this season.

Despite signing Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes for a club-record fee, manager Bruno Lage has admitted that his side are “still looking for a striker” before the transfer window slams shut. For the time being, they will hope they can find a solution to their goal-scoring problems against a Newcastle side that have kept two clean sheets in the league this season.

Meanwhile, Wolves registered their first win of the season in midweek EFL Cup action and will fancy their chances of making it two consecutive wins for the first time since March.

Possible Wolves starting line-up

Newcastle United

After their 2-1 win over Tranmere in the EFL Cup, Newcastle United will turn their attention to the Premier League where they will look to continue their unbeaten start.

The Magpies nearly pulled off the most surprising result of the Premier League’s Game Week two when they led 3-1 against Manchester City at a stage last weekend.

Eddie Howe’s men produced one of the best performances of last weekend at St. James’ Park against the Premier League champions as they raced to a two-goal lead after going a goal down early in the game.

Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring in the game, but Newcastle United responded in style through Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson, who both benefited from some magical play by Allan Saint-Maximin.

The Frenchman had a hand in the third goal for Newcastle as he won a freekick at the edge of the Man City box after being felled down following a trademark run. Kieran Trippier converted from the free-kick to send the Magpies 3-1 ahead and St. James Park in raptures.

However, Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva scored two quick-fire goals for Manchester City to ensure that the spoils were shared.

But the point was sufficient to ensure that Howe’s men continued their unbeaten start to the season while extending their unbeaten run in the EPL to five games (W3, D2). And so, they will travel to the Molineux as the more in-form team and the favourites for a win.

Possible Newcastle starting line-up

Nick Pope; Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles; Joelinton, Bruno Guimarães, Joe Willock; Allan Saint-Maximin, Callum Wilson, Miguel Almiron.

Injured: Jonjo Shelvey,  Emil Krafth
