Crotone 0-2 Inter: Conte’s men closing in on Scudetto-dream after pushing the hosts into relegation

Romelu Lukaku-Inter Milan

Inter appear to be a win away from clinching the Serie A title this season, with their latest win coming against bottom dwellers Crotone.

Inter Milan are one step away from winning the Scudetto after over a decade, with their recent 2-0 win against struggling Crotone has helped them go 14 points clear at the top of the table.

Nerrazzuri were unfortunate not to find the score sheet in the opening half as the strikers Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku hit the woodwork.

It was until the 70th minute when super substitute Christian Eriksen netted the breakthrough, set up by Lukaku. Achraf Hakimi wound up the game by scoring in the stoppage time, and thus Inter secured all three points.

The win leaves Inter 14 points clear of Atalanta – AC Milan can jump to second place if they win against Benevento – and another victory for Antonio’s Conte men will be enough for them to lift the Serie A title.

While Inter would be relishing their title dreams, it’s the exact opposite feeling at the other end, as today’s defeat confirmed Crotone’s relegation to Serie B.

Lukaku achieves unique feat

Lukaku has been instrumental in Inter’s title ambitions this season, turning up with goals and assists whenever needed.

Furthermore, he has established himself as one of the best strikers in Europe since moving to San Siro, and during the game against Crotone, the Belgian managed to achieve a unique feat of becoming the first player to scoring more than 20 goals and provide ten assists in a single Serie A season in more than a decade.

Romelu Lukaku is the first player able to score 20+ goals and deliver 10+ assists in a single Serie A season since Opta started to collect this data (since 2004/05).
