Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani put on a sensational performance against Roma during the midweek in the Europa League semi-finals.

The Uruguayan international scored twice and managed to set up two more goals for his teammates.

After the game, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed publicly that he wants the 34-year-old striker to continue at Old Trafford next season despite being linked with a move away from the club.

“Edinson was out for seven months and not playing football for a very long time before he came to us,” Solskjaer said. “He’s had a couple of injuries and has worked really hard to show his quality.

“He knows my feelings; he knows that I would love to have him for another year; we have spoken about it. I understand this year has been very difficult, but I promised him that Old Trafford and Manchester is a different place with fans in the stadium.

“I’m doing my best, nights like this [help], hopefully, we can get to the final and hopefully, he can see himself being here for another year.”

Cavani was expected to join Boca Juniors at the end of this season. Still, it seems that Solskjaer’s determination to hold on to him has convinced the player to continue at Old Trafford beyond this summer.

According to recent reports, the striker has now decided to continue at Manchester United next season, and the news is likely to be made official next week.

The report further states that Boca juniors were heavily interested in signing him this summer, but Cavani has decided against the move now.

The 34-year-old signed for the Red Devils on a free transfer at the start of the season, and he has proven to be a very useful signing so far.

There is no doubt that he could have a considerable impact on the side next year as well, and the decision to stay will come as a significant boost to the club and the fans.
