Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that the win over Manchester City in the FA Cup could convince Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to stay at the club.
The Gunners’ improvement under Arteta is quite evident and the manager is hoping it will persuade his star players to stay.
It will be interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks. Aubameyang has been linked with a move away from the club for a while now but the Gunners are looking to tie him down to a new deal.
Aubameyang is the best player at the club and losing him would be a catastrophic blow for the Londoners.
Arsenal managed to beat Manchester City and Liverpool in a space of a few days and they will be looking to finish the season strongly now.
The Gunners will fancy their chances of winning the FA Cup as well. They are already in the final after last night’s win.
If they manage to end the season with silverware, Aubameyang might be tempted to continue and chase former glories at Arsenal next season.
That said, the player’s future could depend on the contract on offer as well. Aubameyang would want to get his worth at the club.
He has been their best player for a while but Mesut Ozil is far ahead in terms of paycheque. He might be looking for parity with the top earners.
Speaking to Sky Sports about the player’s situation, Mikel Arteta said: “Good and beautiful moments, they are always better than the bad ones. As I told you, the way I look at him when I speak with him, he sounds pretty convinced. But obviously if he can see that success and the direction we are taking is the right one, I think he will be more positive about it, yes. Hopefully it will help him to be more convinced we are going in the right direction.”
