Barcelona demolish underdogs Ferencvaros 5-1 in Champions League opener

Lionel Messi-Barcelona

Barcelona picked up a 5-1 win over Ferencvaros in the Champions League earlier today at Camp Nou.

The Spanish club were firm favourites heading into the game and the result speaks volumes about their performance today.

The Catalan giants were dominant from start to finish and they deserved the big win tonight.

Ronald Koeman will be happy with his team’s start to their European campaign and Barcelona will be hoping to go all the way this season.

They have not won the Champions League for a while and the players will be desperate to prove themselves in Europe this season.

Lionel Messi opened the scoring on the 27th minute with a penalty and Barcelona doubled their lead 15 minutes later through Ansu Fati.

Philippe Coutinho put Barcelona 3-0 ahead 7 minutes into the second half and the away side bagged a consolation goal through Kharatin on the 70th minute.

Pedri and  Dembele scored two late goals to complete the rout for the Spanish giants.

The fans will be quite happy with what they have seen today and Barcelona will be hoping to build on this and win their remaining group games now.

As for the away side, they were massive underdogs heading into the game but they will be disappointed with the result. Ferencvaros were expected to lose tonight but they will be feeling that they could have put on a bit more fight and made the contest tougher for the Spanish outfit.
