Chelsea, Sevilla cancel each other out in a 0-0 stalemate

Frank Lampard-Chelsea

Chelsea were held to a 0-0 draw against Sevilla in the Champions League earlier today.

The Blues looked well organized at the back and Frank Lampard will be quite pleased with his team’s defensive performance after the showing against Southampton in the last game.

Chelsea have looked vulnerable at the back under Lampard and they will be hoping to build on this performance in the coming months.

Chelsea need to improve defensively if they want to challenge for trophies and tonight’s display shows that they can hold their own against a quality team.

Sevilla won the Europa League last year and they are doing well in the Spanish League. They’re capable of beating Chelsea and the Blues can take quite a few positives from this game.

That said, Chelsea had plenty of creativity on the pitch and they will be disappointed to have come away with just a point.

The likes of Mount, Pulisic, Havertz and Werner are good enough to find a way past the Sevilla defence and they should have created more chances.

Chelsea failed to control possession in the game and they were lacking imagination in the final third.

If the Blues can improve that they should be able to do well in the European competition this season.

The likes of James and Chilwell looked rock solid tonight and Thiago Silva did well to marshall the Blues backline as well.
