Bayern Munich agree €80m deal to sign Dutch centre-back Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus.

The Serie A club are guaranteed to receive €70m, and the add-ons vary in how likely they are to be achieved. Bayern Munich club announced to pay an initial fee of €70 million (£59.4m/$70m) plus a further €10m in add-ons to get their target.

Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus agreed to personal terms and is preparing to sign a contract until 2027. The 22-year-old is the second Netherlands international to join Bayern this summer after the midfielder Ryan Gravenberch. Recently, they also welcomed Sadio Mane from Liverpool and the right-back Noussair Mazraoui from Ajax.

Speaking to GoalChelsea had also been interested in De Ligt but did not pursue further when it became clear that De light wanted to join Bayern.

De Ligt is both a physical and technically gifted right-footed centre-back. A 2019 UEFA.com profile described De Ligt as a “natural leader [who] is an elegant two-footed central defender. He is considered by pundits to be among the most highly regarded young prospects in world football. No wonder Bundesliga champions are ready to invest so heavily in the young defender.
