Hansi Flick confirms summer departure after 3-2 win, Bayern Munich stars react

Bayern Munich-Hans-Flick

Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick has been linked with a move away from the German club at the end of the season after his side’s thrilling win over Wolfsburg.

The defending champions won the game 3-2 thanks to first-half goals from Jamal Musiala and Eric Choupo-Moting.

Wolfsburg did well to fight back through Wout Weghorst and Maximilian Phillip but the visitors held on for all three points. The win takes Bayern seven points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table.

Flick has been linked with the Germany managerial role and he is expected to take over the national team job after the Euros when Joachim Lowe steps down.

The Bayern Munich manager has now informed the club that he wants to leave at the end of the season and he has also informed his decision to the team.

“The situation is I told the team today that I informed the club during the week that I wanted to get out of my contract at the end of the season,” Flick told.

Regarding the German national team job, he added: “Yes, of course, the German National Team is an option that every coach has to consider. But for me the last few weeks have not been easy”.

It will be interesting to see how Bayern replace him at the end of the season. Flick has been outstanding for the Bavarian club and he has helped him win every single trophy at club level.

There have been rumours of a cold war between manager Hansi Flick and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic regarding the transfer strategy this summer.

It is believed that the rift between the two has forced the manager to consider his future at the German club.

According to reports, RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann is one of the frontrunners to takeover at Bayern Munich at the end of the season. The young German manager has done an exceptional job at Leipzig and he has the potential to manage an elite club like Bayern in future.

The players have also reacted to Flick’s decision to leave at the end of this season.

Bayern captain Manuel Neuer said: “The reasons aren’t important to us, this was an emotional story for all of us because we had such a successful time. It was especially important for him to tell us personally.”

Meanwhile, Thomas Muller added: “He didn’t give us the exact reasons, and he didn’t have to. He spent a lot of energy in the intense past year and a half. To be a coach at FC Bayern, you need thick skin. The expectations are very high and you always have to stand by your team.”
