Former Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has reportedly been offered to Borussia Dortmund as an immediate solution following the shocking news that Sebastien Haller has been diagnosed with a testicular tumour.

The new summer signing from Ajax underwent medical examinations on Monday after feeling unwell following training with Borussia Dortmund, the club said. He was eventually diagnosed with testicular cancer, with further tests to take place in a specialist medical facility over the coming days as he begins treatment.

The 28-year-old was signed to replace the departed Erling Haaland, and his absence has left a huge hole in Dortmund’s attack. The Bundesliga giants are now looking for a short-term fix ahead of the new season.

And according to Sky in Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, they have been offered the chance to sign former Liverpool and Barcelona striker Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan is a free agent after running down his contract at Atletico Madrid and could be a short-term solution as Haller receives treatment.

“First of all, it’s very sad news about Sebastian Haller, who has been diagnosed with a testicular tumour, but we know that he’s in the best hands,” he said.

“Our information here in Germany is that Luis Suarez has been offered to Borussia Dortmund from different agents, and now the club is considering what they do with that possibility. It could be that Haller has to be replaced in the next weeks and months.

“There’s also talks about Sasa Kalajdzic. He’s linked to Manchester United, but maybe this is another possibility for Dortmund.”

Following the news, Haller released a statement saying,

“I want to thank you again from the bottom of my heart for all these many warm messages received. I was very moved to see these beautiful reactions, and I even feel like I don’t deserve so much.

“But I know that thanks to you, it will only be one more test on our way. See you very soon in the ground to celebrate our next victories.

“Thank you all for your many messages of support and affection since yesterday’s announcement. My family and I thank you. I will now focus on my recovery to come back stronger.”
