Wolfsburg will welcome FC Koln to Volkswagen Arena this Wednesday for their 17th Bundesliga game of the season.

Venue: Volkswagen Arena (Wolfsburg)

Key Statistics

Wolfsburg are winless in their last seven games (D1, L6).

They are the lowest scorers of teams outside the bottom two.

Wolfsburg players have collected a league-high 34 cards after 15 matches.

Wout Weghorst has two goals and an assist in four previous meetings with Koln.

Koln have won just one of their last eight away games in all competitions (D4, L3).

Only Bayern (291) and Borussia Mönchengladbach (231) have fired off more shots on goal than Koln’s 220 this season.

The visitors have only won one of 14 trips to Wolfsburg – a 3-2 victory on 24 January 2010 – losing 10 and drawing three.

Head to head

VfL Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg will have another opportunity to end a woeful run of form when they welcome FC Koln to the Volkswagen Arena this Tuesday.

The hosts have gone from top four contenders to one of the worst-performing teams in the league in recent weeks.

They were at some point in this season sitting in the top four but find themselves starting this midweek outing in the 11th spot and six points off the Champions League positions.

They come into this tie on the back of a 0-2 home loss to Stuttgart over the weekend – their third-straight league defeat. The defeat was also their fifth straight in all competitions – their longest such run since 1977.

Overall, they are winless across seven games and have taken just four points out of their last five league games. Only Freiburg and Furth have won fewer points than Florian Kohfeldt’s side in that period and they now will be desperate to win this game and avoid dropping further down the table.

Possible VfL Wolfsburg starting line-ups

Koen Casteels; Sebastiaan Bornauw, Maxence Lacroix, John Brooks; Ridle Baku, Maximilian Arnold, Josuha Guilavogui, Jerome Roussillon; Maximilian Philipp, Lukas Nmecha; Wout Weghorst.

Injured: William, Xaver Schlager, Admir Mehmedi, Bartosz Bialek

Suspended: None

FC Koln

FC Koln will look to get back to winning ways this Tuesday when they travel to the North of Germany to face struggling Wolves.

The visitors’ five-game unbeaten run was brought to a stop last weekend as they were defeated 2-0 by Augsburg.

The ‘Billy Goats’ Visiting are sat just one point and one place below Wolfsburg ahead of this matchday, and will need to produce a far better performance than when they lost 2-0 at home to Augsburg last time out.

They will be desperate for a win in this game to strengthen their own push for European qualification.

Steffen Baumgart’s side have more points on the board after 15 matchdays than in their last three Bundesliga campaigns. However, they are yet to win away from home this season (D4, L3) and will fancy their chances of ending their wait for an away win here.

Possible FC Koln starting line-ups

Marvin Schwäbe; Kingsley Ehizibue, Luca Kilian, Rafael Czichos, Benno Schmitz; Ellyes Skhiri, Salih Özcan; Dejan Ljubicic, Ondrej Duda, Florian Kainz; Anthony Modeste..

Injured: Timo Horn, Tomas Ostrak, Mark Uth, Niklas Hauptmann

Suspended: None
