Chelsea may open talks with Freiburg over a potential deal for their striker Luca Waldschmidt, according to reports.
The 23-year-old has scored six goals in 16 appearances for the German club in the current season, but his campaign has been disrupted by several injuries since October.
Waldschmidt, earned Germany debut following his sensational performance in last year’s European Under-21 Championship in Italy, where he scored seven goals in just four games.
The locals were so impressed with the Luca, they named him ‘Il Bomber’ in a nod to German legend Gerd Muller, who was known as ‘Der Bomber’.
Waldschmidt had subsequently earned his senior debut for Germany and now has three caps for the national side.
According to reports in The Sun, Frank Lampard has been following Waldschmidt’s progress and he is keen on signing the striker. The report claims that Chelsea will now discuss a £20 million deal with Freiburg.
Previously Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani was one of Lampard’s targets but that time Uruguayan preferred to stay in Paris. The Chelsea boss is also set to lose Olivier Giroud at the end of the season as his contract will expire.
