Chelsea are thought to be keen on signing the Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez.
Frank Lampard’s side have been vulnerable at the back this season and they need to improve their defensive options in the summer.
Gimenez could prove to be a quality addition for them for the right price.
The Uruguayan is a top class talent and he would improve Chelsea a lot. He would be an upgrade on the likes of Christensen, Zouma and Tomori.
It will be interesting to see if Chelsea make their move for the player in the coming weeks.
Atletico Madrid are under no pressure to sell and they will not be keen on losing a prized asset like Jimenez this summer. Chelsea would have to pay over the odds to convince the Spaniard club into selling.
They are looking at Atletico’s Oblak as well.
Meanwhile, the Blues remain interested in the German midfielder Kai Havertz.
As per reports, the German is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge as well.
Recently, Bayern Munich signing and Havertz’ compatriot Leroy Sane hinted that the Leverkusen star is heading to Chelsea this summer.
Sane revealed during a press conference that Chelsea have done well to sign two quality young German players in one summer. He went on to name them as well – Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.
He said: “I think Germany has always had very good young German players. Many young players get their chance and develop well in the Bundesliga. I think that with Werner and Havertz, two Germans in one year, Chelsea did a good job.”
It seems that the transfer is progressing behind the scenes and one would have to assume that the official confirmation is right around the corner.
