Leicester City

Leicester have had a disappointing season marred by injuries to first-team players, but they remain contenders to be crowned Europa Conference league champions.

Brendan Rodgers’ team come into this encounter off the back of a 1-1 draw against Manchester United in the English Premier League on Saturday. The draw left them rooted to the mid-table, eighteen points off fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur albeit with two games in hand.

However, Leicester have remained consistent in UEFA’s third-tier club competition. The Foxes overcame a second-leg scare to beat Rennes in their last Conference League action, winning 3-2 on aggregate.

Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that his side can continue their run of victories in the competition and grab a first-leg victory over PSV in front of their supporters.

The Foxes welcomed back Wesley Fofana for the game against Manchester United after the Frenchman had missed a huge chunk of the 2021 season through injury. However, Wilfred Ndidi and Danny Ward remain sidelined through injury, and it is yet to be seen if Jamie Vardy will take any part in this encounter.

Possible Leicester City starting line-up

Kasper Schmeichel; Ricardo, Wesley Fofana, Johnny Evans, James Justin; Youri Tielemans, James Maddison, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall; Harvey Barnes, Patson Daka, Kelechi Iheanacho.

Injured: Wilfred Ndidi, Danny Ward

Doubtful: Jamie Vardy

PSV Eindhoven

PSV Eindhoven travel to the king power stadium in search of a first-leg win over Leicester City as they continue to search for their second European trophy.

PSV came back from three goals down to draw 3-3 with FC Twente in the Dutch Eredivisie last weekend.

The draw leaves Roger Schmidt’s men in second position four points shy of first-placed Ajax after 28 rounds of football.

The visitors made light work of Copenhagen in their knockout round encounter, treating fans to a goal-fest over both legs. After being held at home with the tie ending 4-4, PSV travelled to Copenhagen and beat the Danish kings 4-0 to progress to the next round.

PSV alongside Leicester and AS Roma are one of the favourites to lift the inaugural Europa Conference League trophy, but they must first overcome Brendan Rodgers’ team in the first leg of their double legged tie as both teams clash for the first time.

Roger Schmidt will be keen to test his rampaging attack who have scored 22 goals in seven games against Brendan Rodgers’ frail backline who have only kept three clean sheets in their last seven games, conceding seven in seven games and have a goal difference of -4 in the Premier League.

But Schmidt was without the services of Phillipp Mwene and Ryan Thomas for the six-goal thriller against FC Twente and both players remain a doubt for this crunch tie against the English side.

Possible PSV starting line-up

Joel Drommel; Junior Mauro, Chukwunonso Madueke, Olivier Boscagli, Philipp Max; Erick Gutierrez, Marco van Ginkel; Joey Veerman, Mario Gotze, Ritsu Doan; Eran Zahavi.

Injured: Phillipp Mwene, Shurandy Sambo, Ryan Thomas

Doubtful: Fode Fofana, Cody Gakpo, Erick Gutierrez, Ramalho, Ibrahim Sangare, Jordan Teze, Emmanuel van de Blaak.

Suspended: None
