Chelsea 2-0 Burnley: Azpilicueta, Alonso score as Chelsea return to winning ways

Alonso-Chelsea

Chelsea picked up their first win under new manager Thomas Tuchel with a 2-0 victory over Burnley in the Premier League earlier today.

Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso scored for the home side.

Chelsea started the game brightly and were in control  of the proceedings. Burnley came into the game having beaten the likes of Liverpool and Aston Villa recently and the Blues could not have underestimated them.

Azpilicueta scored the opening goal of the game after being set up by Callum Hudson-Odoi five minutes before half time.

Alonso wrapped up the scoring with a superb volley on the 84th minute and he was set up by Christian Pulisic.

Both Pulisic and Hudson-Odoi had the chance to increase Chelsea’s advantage but they failed to hit the target with their efforts.

Pulisic dragged his shot wide and Hudson-Odoi hit the crossbar.

It was the first win in four home matches for Chelsea and they are now up to 7th in the Premier League table level on points with Tottenham Hotspur.

Meanwhile Burnley are 15th after today’s defeat and they will be quite disappointed with the performance.

They failed to muster a single shot on target at Stamford Bridge today and the fans would have expected a better showing from the players.

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea can now build on this performance and put together a winning run now.

They will be expected to qualify for the Champions League next season and they must look to finish in the top four.

Furthermore, the new Chelsea manager will now look to get the best out of his faltering attack in the coming weeks.
