Manchester City are looking to improve their defence this summer and they are expected to sign Kalidou Koulibaly.
As per reports, the player is set to join the Premier League giants for a fee of around £72million.
The 29-year-old has been linked with a move to Newcastle United as well but he is expected to turn down their advances because he has his heart set on a move to Etihad.
Koulibaly is one of the best defenders in the world right now and he would be a stunning signing for the Premier League.
One of the reasons Pep Guardiola’s side failed to win the title this season is their back four. They did not replace Vincent Kompany properly and it cost them dearly. The likes of Stones and Otamendi are simply not good enough and Laporte had injury issues this season.
Koulibaly and Laporte would be a world class partnership on paper and it will be interesting to see if City can pull it off.
The Senegalese would be the kind of signing that defines a season. He could help City win back the title next season.
One issue with the transfer could be City’s potential Champions League ban. If they are banned from the premier European competition, they might struggle to attract world class players like Koulibaly.
They have the finances and pull to attract the player but the availability of Champions League football is still a massive factor when it comes to transfers.
