Messi to accept reduced wages to facilitate Haaland move

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi is expected to sign a new contract with the Spanish club this summer and the player has now agreed to accept a pay-cut so that the club can sign their targets in the transfer market.

Messi has informed the club president Joan Laporta that he will renew his contract at reduced terms and Laporta has assured Messi that the Spanish club will begin negotiations to sign Erling Haaland in the summer.

The Norwegian is one of the most coveted young players in world football right now and he would be a sensational long term signing for the Spanish outfit.

The 20-year-old has already established himself as a world class goal scorer and he could help the Spanish outfit challenge for the Champions League next season.

It will be interesting to see if Barcelona can agree on a deal with Borussia Dortmund for the highly-rated striker in the coming weeks.

City could fund Haaland move with Sterling sale

Meanwhile, Manchester City are prepared to cash in on Raheem Sterling so that they can pursue Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish this summer.

The 26-year-old winger is in the final two years of his contract and he has struggled to hold down a regular starting berth this season.

Apparently the England international is not considered as an integral part of Guardiola’s plans and the Spanish manager is willing to sell him for the right price.

Manchester City could definitely use a top-class striker like Erling Haaland next season especially with Sergio Aguero set to leave the club on a free transfer.

Haaland has been linked with other European giants as well and it remains to be seen whether Manchester City can fend off the competition and secure his services this summer.
