Ancelotti wants Real Madrid to move for under-fire Chelsea striker Timo Werner

Timo Werner-Chelsea

Chelsea striker Timo Werner has had a mediocre debut campaign with the Blues this past year, and the German has failed to live up to his massive price tag.

The Blues paid around £47 million for the former RB Leipzig striker, and he has chipped in with just 12 goals in all competitions.

The Blues are now being linked with a move for Erling Haaland and Romelu Lukaku. It is evident that Thomas Tuchel wants to bring in an upgrade, and it will be interesting to see if Chelsea are prepared to cash in on Werner and cut their losses on him.

According to reportsReal Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is set to request the club chiefs to make a move for the German this summer.

It would be a surprising move for Real Madrid because Werner may not be ready to play for a club of that stature and be scrutinized on a daily basis.

However, there is no doubt that the 25-year-old German international has the potential to succeed at the highest level, and a world-class manager like Ancelotti might be able to unlock his potential.

Real Madrid already have Karim Benzema as their first-choice striker, and Werner will probably have to accept a backup role if he moves to Santiago Bernabeu.

Alternatively, he could play as a wide forward for the Spanish outfit next season.

It will be interesting to see how his situation develops over the next few weeks now.

He has a long term contract at Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea paid big money for him last summer. The Blues will be hoping to recoup most of that, and it remains to be seen whether Real Madrid are willing to speed the asking price for the German striker.
