Barcelona are now reportedly desperate to offload some of their players so that they can hold on to their talisman Lionel Messi.

The Spanish La Liga giants are under serious financial pressure. Even though the likes of Messi have agreed to take a 50% pay cut, Barcelona are struggling to afford his new contract and register their summer signings.

According to a report from Guardian, the Spanish club have already sold Carles Alena, Junior Firpo, Jean-ClairTodibo and Francisco Trincao. However, they will need to offload some more players in order to comply with La Liga’s salary cap.

The Spanish outfit are looking to cash in on Samuel UmtitiMiralem PjanicPhilippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele.

Forward Antoine Griezmann has been linked with a move away from the club as well. The Frenchman is one of the top earners at the club, and his departure will certainly reduce the wage bill significantly.

Barcelona’s main objective this summer is to hold on to Lionel Messi, who is currently a free agent, and he has been out of contract for 20 days now.

The Argentine international is no longer a Barcelona player for the first time since he joined the club at the age of 13.

The Spanish giants still have a month to renew the player’s contract, and it will be interesting to see if they can reduce their wage bill in time and rubberstamp the contract agreement with Messi.
