The Argentine skipper will commit his future to the Catalan club after agreeing to fresh terms.

Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi has reportedly agreed to a new five-year deal, which will keep him at the Nou camp until 2026.

The report also adds that the Argentine has agreed to halve his salary considering the club’s financial situation, and the announcement of his new deal is imminent.

The Argentine’s contract expired on July 1, and his future at the Camp Nou had been a subject of speculation.

However, various reports stated that Messi’s extension with the Catalan club was only a matter of time despite PSG’s interest in signing him on a free transfer.

Problems piled up for Barca after they were told by La Liga president that Messi couldn’t renew his deal due to the FFP regulation, and the Blaugrana was advised to reduce their wage bill to match La Liga’s salary cap.

Now, the entire fans can have a sigh of relief as the 34-year-old would be wearing the Blaugrana shirt next season.

Messi’s relationship with his boyhood club fell apart after he stated his desire to leave the Nou Camp last summer, and he wasn’t a big fan of former president Joan Laporta’s handling of things.

However, the situation changed when Joan Laporta assumed the presidential duties, and his project convinced Messi to stay at the club while accepting a pay cut.

Messi will be coming off a spectacular season at both the club and country, winning Copa America with the latter one.

After ending his trophy drought with the national side, the Argentine skipper will now bid for his seventh Ballon d’Or award.
