The Valencia left-back has been linked with a move to the Nou Camp.
Barcelona have now received a significant boost in the pursuit of summer target and Valencia left-back Jose Gaya.
According to a report, the Spaniard has decided to halt his contract talks with Los Che, but Gaya is attracting interest from both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
Furthermore, Valencia could be forced to sell their most important player this summer due to their financial crisis, thus handing Barca a major boost.
The Catalans have been long interested in finding a replacement for Jordi Alba. Perhaps, all the acquisitions over the years, such as Lucas Digne and Junior Firpo, who were brought in to compete with Alba for the left-back, ended up as failed transfers.
Alba has been without competition for a long time, and hence the burden has also increased for him.
Although Alba is unarguably one of the best players in his position, his inability to fight in big games earned him a lot of stick.
Elsewhere, Gaya has been consistent for Los Che, making over 200 appearances. His recent form is particularly impressive as he has been a regular feature in the Spanish national team squad.
The 26-year-old is also in Luis Enrique’s squad for Euro 2020 alongside Alba.
As far as Barca are concerned, signing a left-back remains a priority this summer, and Gaya would be an effective option.
Alba’s attacking flair is one of the best around, but he struggles massively on defensive transitions. Gaya could help fix the issue as his commitment to track back and defend is one aspect of his game.
