The midfielder’s contraction of the virus has caused a fuss among the Spain national team before Euro 2020.

Spain have called up five players in the wake of Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquests testing positive for COVID-19.

The Catalan midfielder is currently in isolation while the rest of the squad has returned negative tests.

As means of a precaution, Luis Enrique has called a group of five players, which includes

Rodrigo Moreno, Pablo Fornals, Carlos Soler, Brais Mendez and Raul Albiol will train in a parallel bubble and won’t be allowed to mingle with the original squad.

A statement from the Spanish Football Federation said: “In anticipation of the possible consequences that the positive test of Sergio Busquets could bring, the coaching staff has decided to incorporate a group of footballers to complete training during the next days under Luis Enrique’s orders within a parallel bubble,” the statement read.

“Tomorrow, the players Rodrigo Moreno (Leeds United), Pablo Fornals (West Ham United), Carlos Soler (Valencia CF) and Brais Mendez (RC Celta) will join the sessions in Las Rozas.”

Europa League winner Albiol’s inclusion was only announced on Monday.

However, it’s up to Luis Enrique, who will decide whether the five players can make it to the main roster in the coming days.

Spain had their pre-tournament friendly game against Lithuania cancelled, and now they will look forward to their first game of the European Championship against Sweden.

Busquets has been deemed doubtful for the opening game, but Spain can benefit from a handful of midfielders they have at their disposal.
