Gerard Pique offers to help Barcelona by playing for free

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has been linked with moving away from the Spanish club this summer but is determined to continue at the Catalan club and has offered to play for free.

Barcelona are going through financial difficulties right now, and they are struggling to register some of their new signings this summer.

According to a report from AS, the player has now offered to help the club out during their financial difficulties. He met with club president Joan Laporta last week and offered to play for free so the club could register other players and meet the wage cap.

Barcelona reportedly struggling to register players like Ousmane Dembélé and Robert Lewandowski.

However, the experienced defender has been a loyal servant to the club, and Barcelona do not want him to play for free. Instead, they will offer him a heavily reduced contract, and the player will be paid according to the team’s needs.

The centre-back is currently the fifth-choice defender in the side, and he is unlikely to play regular first-team football. However, Pique is convinced that he has a lot to offer at the highest level, and he’s backing himself to hold down a regular starting berth next season.

Barcelona have brought in Andreas Christensen to partner Ronald Araujo at the back this season, and it will be interesting to see if Pique can break into Xavi’s starting line-up in the coming months.

It is no secret that the defender is no longer the player he used to be, but he could still be an important player because of his leadership qualities and winning experience. Furthermore, his magnanimous gesture is likely to impress the fan base.
