The attacking duo combined to hand Inter an emphatic win in the Milan derby
Martinez put Inter upfront inside five minutes when he headed the ball into the nets from Lukaku’s cross.
Besides the duo, Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic put on an excellent display as he made some stunning saves at the start of the second half to prevent Milan from finding the equaliser.
Martinez doubled the lead and also his tally after a quick counter-attack, with the Argentine sending the ball past Gianluigi Donnarumma from Ivan Perisic’s cross.
Lukaku scored the clincher after another quick break as he ran past the defenders with sheer pace before releasing a precise shot from left-foot. The Belgian striker has also moved ahead of Juventus ace Cristiano Ronaldo to the top of the scoring charts with 17 goals.
Nerazzurri have gained a strong foothold in the Scudetto race as they are four points clear at the top of the table.
Meanwhile, Stefano Pioli’s men have slipped up after a string of unimpressive results in recent weeks – a draw and three defeats – and now they face a mountainous task to catch up with their arch-rivals.
