Getafe

Getafe’s poor start to the season continued into Round Nine of the 2022/23 La Liga season as they were held to a goalless draw with Rayo Vallecano last Friday.

The result made it two games without a goal for the hosts, who after nine rounds of games have scored the joint-fourth fewest goals in the league this season. It is not only in attack they are struggling; the Azulones are also struggling at the back where they have conceded 16 goals.

Exactly half of those goals have come at home (8) where Getafe have recorded two consecutive losses ahead of this tie. Overall, they have won just two of their opening nine games (D2, L5) and so come into this tie sitting in 16th place, just one point ahead of the relegation zone.

Having survived relegation last season by just one point, Quique Sánchez Flores will be desperate to avoid another season where they will be fighting for survival until the last day. But things are looking already tough for the Madrid-based club who will be desperate to end a current three-game winless run ahead for this round.

But given their record against Bilbao in recent times, especially at home where they have not lost to their visitors in their last five meetings (W1, D4), they will come into this tie confident of getting a positive result.

Possible Getafe starting line-up

Athletic Bilbao

Athletic Club will look to get back to winning ways when they travel to Madrid on Tuesday.

The visitors come into this tie on the back of a disappointing 1-0 loss to Atletico Madrid last weekend. The win was secured courtesy of a goal by French striker Antoine Greizmann–his 100th goal for the visitors.

The result means that Ernesto Valverde’s men come into this fixture without a win in two games given that they were held to a 1-1 draw with Sevilla before the loss to Atletico Madrid.

But before going two games without a win, the visitors were on a three-game-winning run, and a run of five wins in six games (L1).

It was that run that shot them up to the table and into the top four, where they are hoping to end this season. But their recent dropped points mean that they now come into this fixture sitting in sixth place, two points behind the top four.

Having failed to score for the third time this season in their last game, Ernesto Valverde will hope that his side can get their scoring touch again and continue their unbeaten start in away games. The visitors have won two and drawn one of their three away games this season, scoring four times in two of the games.

Possible Athletic Bilbao starting line-up

Unai Simon; Oscar de Marcos, Yeray Alvarez, Inigo Martinez, Inigo Lekue; Mikel Vesga, Oihan Sancet, Nico Williams, Iker Mûnein, Berenguer Remiro; Inaki Williams.

Injured: Yuri Berchiche

Doubtful: Daniel Vivian

Suspended: Ander Herrera

Getafe 1-3 Athletic Bilbao
