According to leaked audio, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has called Iker Casillas and Raul Gonzalez two of the biggest frauds in the club’s history.
According to a report from Marca, Perez believed that the two players were not good enough to play for Los Blancos back in 2006. The club president felt that Casillas lacked in height and good eyesight. He also felt that Raul was a negative character.
His controversial statement has now been leaked, and it has caused a furore amongst the fans.
Perez said: “Casillas is not a Real Madrid standard goalkeeper. What can I say? He’s not and never has been. He has been a big failure of ours. The problem is people adore him, love him, talk to him. They defend him so much.
“He is one of the biggest frauds, and the other is Raul. The two biggest Real Madrid frauds are first Raul and second Casillas. The players are very selfish. You can’t count on them for anything. If you do, you’ve made a mistake, and they’ll let you down. It’s ridiculous. I have an awful view of the players.”
Both players are considered legends of the La Liga club, and the disrespect from Florentino Perez has not gone down too well.
Casillas is undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers of his generation, and he helped his club and country when every trophy possible.
The way his departure was handled was quite controversial and disappointing. The surfacing of Perez’s comments will only make things worse.
Meanwhile, Raul Gonzalez is one of the best strikers in the club’s history and to label him as fraud is simply absurd.
