Chelsea are looking to improve their defensive options this summer and the PSG captain Thiago Silva is a target for them.
According to reports, the Blues are now expected to miss out on the Brazilian defender after the player agreed on a £70,000 contract with Italian club Fiorentina.
Silva will leave PSG after the Champions League final and he is expected to move to Florence. The player has already begun searching for a house in Italy.
It will be interesting to see who Chelsea decide to move for now.
The Blues cannot hope to start the new season without bringing in a quality defender.
They were very poor at the back last season and they will have to improve that area if they want to challenge for the Premier League title.
Frank Lampard has invested in quality attackers but he will have to ensure that his side are better organised at the back.
There is a clear shortage of quality defenders on the market right now and Chelsea will have to work hard to find a good alternative to Thiago Silva.
The Brazilian would have been an exceptional short term addition to Lampard’s side.
Silva has the quality, the experience and the leadership skills to make a big difference for the Premier League side.
If he ends up joining Fiorentina this summer, the Italian club will have gained a fantastic player on a bargain.
Silva’s contract with the French side will expire soon an he will be able to join the Italian club on a free transfer.
If Chelsea managed to convince him to join them on a free transfer, it would have helped them save some money for the other positions as well.
