Real Betis 2-3 Barcelona: Messi, Trincao lead Barca to a thrilling comeback win

The Catalans grabbed three points after edging out Betis in a thriller.

Lionel Messi and Francisco Trincao turned the heroes for Barcelona in a thrilling 3-2 comeback win, with the latter one registering his first goal in the Blaugrana shirt.

The Catalans were predominantly on the backfoot through the larger parts in the first half while Messi’s presence on the bench and an early injury blow to Ronald Araujo added more misery.

As expected, Betis drew first blood through Iglesias’ swift strike before the half-time.

Ronald Koeman had nothing to do but call Messi in the second half and as soon as the Argentine was introduced, he made his presence feel by scoring the equaliser with a precise finish.

The Catalans went 2-1 up after Victor Ruiz accidentally scored an own goal before the Spanish centre-back salvaged with a header from Nabil Fekir’s freekick, resulting from a foul made by Barca midfielder Sergio Busquets.

Trincao, another substitute, scored the winning goal with a thunderous hit in the dying minutes to help Barca claim three points. The Portuguese youngster has been underwhelming in his debut season but today’s performance could lift his spirit up going forward.

Messi showed his class for the umpteenth time although he had to appear only in the final thirty minutes of the game. The Argentine ace has now scored 13 goals in the league so far and he is only behind Luis Suarez in the pichichi race.
