Man City edge past Sheffield United thanks to Gabriel Jesus’ first-half goal

Gabriel Jesus-Manchester City

Manchester City picked up a 1-0 win over Sheffield United to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Gabriel Jesus scored the only goal of the game for the League leaders.

The Brazilian came into this game having failed to score in nine consecutive matches and tonight’s winner will have given him a massive confidence boost.

Manchester City scored the opening goal of the game on the 9th minute and Gabriel Jesus scored a tap in from close range after some fantastic work from Ferran Torres.

City were the dominant side and they could have easily doubled their advantage but Bernardo Silva’s header was aimed straight at Aaron Ramsdale.

The Premier League leaders had more chances in the second half but the likes of Ruben Dias failed to hit the target with the header and Zinchenko had his shot saved by Ramsdale.

Sheffield United had the chance to level the score late on in the game but John Fleck missed the target by inches.

Manchester City have now won eight successive games and they are at the top of the table with 44 points. They will be hoping to extend the gap with Manchester United when the Red Devils face off against Arsenal later tonight.

Meanwhile Sheffield United remain at the bottom of the table with just eight points and they will need a miraculous recovery during the second half of the campaign to stay up this season.
