Marseille 0-2 PSG: Mbappe, Icardi score early to bag the 100th Le Classique

PSG-Paris Saint-Germain

Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain picked up a comfortable 2-0 win over Marseille in the French League earlier tonight.

The two clubs are bitter rivals and Mauricio Pochettino will be delighted to have picked up all three points today.

The win keeps Paris Saint-Germain firmly in the title race alongside Lille and Lyon.

Kylian Mbappe and Mauro Icardi were the goal scorers for the away side. The win tonight takes PSG up to third in the table with 51 points from 24 matches and they are trailing League leaders Lille by just three points now.

Lyon are one point ahead in second place having won their match this weekend.

Marseille are going through a bit of a crisis right now and tonight’s defeat against their bitter rivals will pile further misery on them.

They have lost four of the last five matches and the fact that key player Dimitri Payet was sent off in the dying moments of the game will come as a huge blow to the side. He was sent off for a high boot on Marco Verratti.

Marseille are currently 9th in the table with 33 points from 22 matches.

With just three points separating the top three teams in the French League this season, the title race is as close as it gets and PSG will certainly fancy their chances of going all the way because of the quality and depth at their disposal.

The away side were in control of the game from the start and they were ruthless at the break. they could have easily scored more goals but the likes of Leandro Paredes hit the crossbar with a thundering effort.

Considering the fact that Neymar did not start the match and Angel Di Maria had to be replaced early on after hurting himself, this was an impressive performance from PSG in a Derby game.
