Real Madrid 0-0 Osasuna: Ancelotti’s men held to a goalless draw at home

Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid

Real Madrid were held to a 0-0 draw against Osasuna in the Spanish La Liga league earlier tonight.

Los Blancos missed a glorious opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table. The draw leaves them level on points with Sevilla and Real Betis.

Here at Anytime football, we look at the three major talking points from tonight’s contest.

Absence of Luka Modric

The Croatian international is undoubtedly the most productive midfielder for Real Madrid and his absence left the home side lacking in creativity tonight.

Real Madrid struggled to carve out clear cut chances throughout the game and Carlo Ancelotti will need the experienced midfielder back in action if Real Madrid are to do well this season.

Modric is one of the best players of his generation and it is no surprise that his side missed his incisive passing and technicality in the final third.

Eder Militao – the star of the show

The 23-year-old defender has been outstanding for Real Madrid over the past year and he was undoubtedly the pick of the bunch tonight.

Militao produced a flawless defensive performance for the home side tonight and Osasuna struggled to find a way past the Real Madrid back four throughout the game.

The Brazilian has been the best centre back at the club ever since the turn of the year, even when Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane were at the club.

Real Madrid are in need of a quality winger

Carl Ancelotti used attacking midfielder Marco Asensio as a wide forward tonight but the Real Madrid midfielder is more suited to a central role. Asensio struggled to open up the Osasuna defence owing to his lack of pace and flair.

Eden Hazard was left on the bench and Gareth Bale is currently sidelined with an injury.

Real Madrid are in desperate need of a quality wide player who can break down deep defences with his pace and flair from the flanks.
