Brisbane Roar regained the third position in the A-League standings on Wednesday after inflicting a two-one defeat on Perth Glory

A second-half strike from Riku Danzaki after an own-goal from Jonathan Aspropotamitis ensured that the hosts went home with maximum points despite a late goal by the hosts that halved the deficit.

Despite a good start by the visitors in the first half, it was the hosts who got the first goal of the day early in the second half when Jonathan Aspropotamitis put through his own net while trying to clear a cross into his box.

Riku Danzaki doubled the advantage for the hosts in the 73rd minute, applying the finish to a fast counterattack from the home side.

Brandon Wilson emerged from the bench to score for the visitors in the 85th minute, but his goal could do nothing to change the outcome of the game.

The result means that Perth Glory miss out on a top-six finish for the season, while Brisbane Roar seal their final series place.

Richard Garcia’s men will now enter the last game of the campaign against Newcastle Jets with little to play for, except perhaps a higher league finish than the ninth position they currently occupy.

The hosts, who are now guaranteed to play their 10th final series in eleven seasons, can ensure a top-three finish if they win their last game of the season against Sydney FC.
