Real Madrid 2-0 Celta Vigo: Zidane’s picked seventh win in eight games

Zinedine Zidane-Real Madrid-1

Real Madrid picked up a 2-0 win over Celta Vigo in the Spanish League earlier tonight.

Marco Asensio was in outstanding form as Los Blancos managed to grind out a vital win.

The Spanish international did well to set up Lucas Vazquez six minutes into the game. Vazquez scored the opening goal of the game with a header after an inch-perfect cross from Asensio.

Marco Asensio added Real Madrid’s second goal of the game in the second half as Lucas Vazquez returned the favour with an assist on the 53rd minute.

The win takes Real Madrid to the top of the table with 36 points from 17 matches and they are now one point ahead of cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid.

However Atletico Madrid have three matches in hand and they can easily pull clear after rivals if they manage to win those games.

Meanwhile, Celta Vigo are eighth in the League table with 23 points from 17 matches.

Zinedine Zidane will be reasonably pleased with his team’s performance tonight.

Celta Vigo will be disappointed with the result after dominating position in the first half. They had 60% of the ball in the first 45 minutes but they failed to make the most of their dominance and were vulnerable to counter attacks.

They will have to improve a lot defensively if they want to qualify for European football next season.
