Real Madrid 2-0 Granada: Casemiro, Benzema score during second-half

Casemiro-Real Madrid

Real Madrid picked up a 2-0 win over Granada in the Spanish League earlier tonight.

The Spanish champions took the lead through Casemiro on the 57th minute and Karim Benzema wrapped up the scoring deep into injury time to give Real Madrid all three points.

The Brazilian defensive midfielder headed home from Marco Asensio’s cross and Karim Benzema scored a vital late goal just like he did against Levante and Athletic Club earlier in the season.

Benzema has now scored 10 goals in his last 10 games for Real Madrid in all competitions.

Granada came to Santiago Bernabeu with an impressive defensive plan and Real Madrid initially struggled to get past their back four.

Eventually, the away side’s defence was breached and Zinedine Zidane will be delighted to be going into the festive period by winning Real Madrid’s sixth straight match since that humiliating defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

The Spanish Giants have improved a lot since then and the Champions seemed to be firing on all cylinders.

Granada will be slightly disappointed to have come away with nothing from the game especially when they were gifted a few opportunities by a lacklustre Real Madrid defence.

Raphael Varane has been struggling since the start of the season and the Frenchman seemed vulnerable once again tonight. The Real Madrid defender kept giving the ball away to the opposition and a better team would have capitalised on his mistakes.

On the attacking front, the fans will be impressed with Marco Asensio’s display as the Spanish playmaker created Casemiro’s goal and almost scored a stunning goal himself.

The only negative for Real Madrid tonight was the injury to Rodrigo during the second half of the game. The winger looks set for a lengthy lay off after he was stretchered off With the hamstring injury.

The win tonight takes Real Madrid up to second in the table level on points with Atletico Madrid.

Meanwhile, Granada have dropped down to seventh with 21 points from 14 matches.
