The veteran defender’s contract at Juventus has expired recently.

Real Madrid are reportedly considering a move for Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini as they continue their search for defensive reinforcements.

The 36-year-old, who had his contract expired at Juventus recently, led the Italian national team to Euro 2020 after contributing massively in the defence with his partner Leonardo Bonucci.

It marked his first major title victory with Azzurri, with whom he had made 112 appearances.

Chiellini has been serving the Bianconeri for around 17 years since joining them in 2004, and he is considered as one of the best defenders of his generation.

Meanwhile, Madrid may require reinforcement after Sergio Ramos‘ departure. Things could worsen as Raphael Varane is expected to leave this summer, with Manchester United being deemed the potential destination.

Los Blancos’ new manager Carlo Ancelotti, who has limited defensive options, wants his compatriot Chiellini to lead the defence next season.

Although Eder Militao and Nacho were impressive for more significant parts of the last season, Ancelotti wants an experienced campaigner in the same vein as Ramos.

Meanwhile, the Old Lady are expected to offer a one-year extension for the Italian centre-back, with his agent Davide Lippi stating that there haven’t been any offers from other clubs.

“Giorgio went to the Euros and focused exclusively on that. There’s no problem with Juventus, we said we’d meet up later in the summer, but we haven’t yet sat down to discuss a renewal.”

“As of today, there is nobody. We are waiting for Juventus to tell us when we can sit down and have a chat.”

Even though for a short-term solution, Chiellini can be a great addition to Los Blancos, given that he is coming off an impressive season in the European Championship, where he defied his age once again.
