Erik Lamela scored an injury-time winner to seal three points for Sevilla.

Sevilla managed to outsmart Getafe 1-0 after Erik Lamela scored a last-gasp winner.

The Andalusian outfit were off to a stupendous start to the new La Liga season after picking up back to back wins.

The game was drab for the larger parts before Sevilla showed their intentions in the final quarter. After a few missed chances, Julen Lopetegui’s men got their reward when Lamela scored the decisive goal in injury time.

Sevilla are now at the top of the table with 6 points after winning consecutive league fixtures.

Sevilla’s star-studded attack and balanced team

Lopetegui’s side have been regular top-four contenders over the last two seasons, and one of the main reasons has been their star-studded attack. The likes of Lucas Ocampos, Youssef En-Nesyri and Rafa Mir could easily get under the radar but their potential is too good to be played down. Last season, En-Nesyri showed he was among the best forwards in the league and Ocampos did that a season prior. Their latest additions Rafa Mir and Lamela are looking very promising, with the latter one already bagging 3 goals in 2 games. It is safe to say that Sevilla’s attacking depth is arguably the best in the league.

Lopetegui’s men could mount a serious La Liga title challenge

The time has come for Lopetegui’s side to push their boundaries and if they continue their current form in the long run, the Andalusian outfit can be a threat to Atletico Madrid’s title defence. The wholesome squad of Sevilla is one of the main reasons they can mount a serious challenge to the La Liga title. From Juan Jordan in the midfield to the likes of Jules Kounde and Diego Carlos in the defence, even the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona don’t have such a squad depth. Furthermore, the two Spanish giants dropped points on Matchday 2 and their weaknesses were well exploited by the opponents.
