Chelsea 0-0 Wolves: Thomas Tuchel begins life in the Premier League with a draw

Chelsea were held to a goalless draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League earlier tonight.

It was Thomas Tuchel’s first match in charge of the Blues and the German manager will be pleased with what he saw out there tonight.

The Blues took control of the game early on and they could have easily taken the lead when Callum Hudson-Odoi nearly found Olivier Giroud in the box with a well-drilled cross.

The likes of Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech seemed livelier than usual and the Blues were the better team in the first half.

French international Olivier Giroud had the chance to put Chelsea ahead in the second half as well but he was denied twice by the Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Conor Coady who came up with two stunning blocks.

Pedro Neto came close for the away side but his chipped effort hit the crossbar and Mateo Kovacic had a late chance to win the game for the hosts but he missed the target.

Chelsea are now up to 8th in the Premier League table with 30 points and they will be hoping to build on this and put together a winning run now.

Thomas Tuchel has been brought in to get the best out of the likes of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz and it will be interesting to see if the German can improve Chelsea going forward.

The Blues spent more than £200 million during the summer transfer window and they were expected to challenge for the title. The title race is probably beyond them now.

Chelsea will still be expected to make the top four and secure Champions League qualification for next season.

Missing out on European football next year could prove to be disastrous for the club and Thomas Tuchel will be under pressure to guide the Blues to a top-four finish during the second half of the season.
