Lyon 2-4 PSG: Kylian Mbappe helps PSG reclaim top spot with a brace

Les Parisiens moved to the top of Ligue 1 after crushing Lyon away.

PSG have moved ahead of LOSC Lille to secure the leaders berth in Ligue 1 after their 4-2 win against Lyon away.

Les Parisiens suffered a major setback against Nantes in their previous league game but gained back the momentum after defeating Lille 3-0 in the French Cup round of 16 earlier this week. They were well aware of the fact that a win against Lyon could help them move to the top of the leaders table.

Kylian Mbappe continued on his fine run as he gave the visitors an early lead after a superb left-footed strike from a difficult angle before Danilo Pereira doubled the lead around the half-hour mark.

PSG inflicted more pain on Les Gones, with Angel Di Maria netting the third goal as soon as the second half started. Minutes later, Mbappe completed his brace in a stunning way to give his side an unassailable lead. With that strike, the French superstar has taken his tally to 20 in Ligue 1 this season and is well-positioned at the top of the scoring charts.

The home side tried to get back on the game after halving the deficit through goals from Slimani and Cornet but they proved insufficient in the end. Mauricio Pochettino’s men were ruthless in the attack as they were able to breach through the sluggish defence of Lyon at ease.

Les Parisiens are now gradually becoming a brute force under the Argentine manager, who has already led them to the last eight of the Champions League.

However, Pochettino’s resilience would be tested in the coming weeks as PSG have some huge fixtures against Lille and Bayern Munich.
