Lyon

Crises-hit Lyon will look to get back to winning ways when they host Toulouse this Friday.

The hosts enjoyed a positive start to the new season, as they went five games without suffering defeat (W4, D1). But they come into this tie on a run of four consecutive losses in Ligue 1, with the last two losses seeing them unable to score a goal.

Their poor form has raised the pressure on coach Peter Bosz’s shoulders, and history suggests that he could be on the verge of his last game in Lyon’s dugout if he ends up with another bad result in this match with the trigger-happy president Jean-Michel Aulas not afraid to ring the changes should the slide continue.

Although the club chief stated after Lyon’s 1-0 loss to Lens last week that “you have to be patient with Peter” while adding that “a point will be made” after the game against Toulouse. The hosts cannot afford to relax as they look to avoid losing five straight top-flight games for the first time in over 40 years.

A meeting with Toulouse may be a golden opportunity to avoid that scenario, considering Lyon have won the last seven head-to-head meetings held here.

Possible Lyon starting line-up

Toulouse

While Lyon continues to struggle, Toulouse will travel to Parc Olympique Lyonnais looking to record consecutive league wins for the first time since 2018.

The visitors secured a 4-2 home win in the “derby d’Occitanie” against Montpellier last weekend.

Coach Philippe Montanier praised his players “efficiency” on Sunday after his team conceded the opener in the seventh minute yet fought back to win, and such an attitude could make a big difference at the Groupama Stadium.

The win was Toulouse’s third win of the season (D2, L4) and has them sitting in 12th place after nine games. However, ahead of their game in Lyon, the visitors’ biggest concern lies in their defence where they have already conceded 15 goals this season. That tally of 15 goals conceded is the same return the Haute-Garonne-based side had at the same point in 2019/20 – a season that ended in relegation (20th).

Another worry for them heading into this tie is their away form as Les Violets’ are currently on a run of three consecutive away losses in Ligue 1. That form doesn’t inspire any hope that they can finally claim their first win here since 1966 (D6, L21, since).

Possible Toulouse starting line-up

Maxime Dupe; Anthony Rouault, Rasmus Nicolaisen, Moussa Diarra, Issiaga Sylla; Stijn Spierings, B. van den, Brecht Dejaegere; Farès Chaïbi, Thijs Dallinga, Zakaria Aboukhla

Injured: Rhys Healey, Rafael Ratao

Doubtful: None

Suspended: Mikkel Desler
