Neymar exercises the option to extend his £24m-a-year PSG contract

Neymar has reportedly exercised an option on his contract at Paris Saint-Germain that allows him to extend his stay at the club, ending speculation over his future in Paris.

The Brazilian attacker has been linked with a move away from PSG amid reports that the Parisians had informed the player that he was no longer wanted.

The Ligue 1 giants are trying to free up cash to pursue their summer targets, and Neymar appears the most vulnerable of the famed front three, which includes Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.

With Mbappe having agreed to stay after signing a bumper new deal worth a huge £650,000 a week and Messi’s place safe, there were suggestions that Neymar will be moved this summer.

But according to Sport via Daily Mail, the 30-year-old, who arrived in Paris for a world-record transfer fee of £199.8m in 2017, has instead opted to exercise the option in his contract, which would keep him in Paris until 2027.

The Brazilian is under contract at PSG until 2025, having extended his deal in 2021. He earns around £24million a year in his current contract, meaning any potential suitors will have to empty their pockets should they wish to sign him.

Despite enduring a poor campaign last season, he still scored 13 league goals in 22 appearances.
