PSG 2-1 Lens: Neymar leads PSG back to the top of the table

Neymar-PSG

The Brazilian scored and set up one more to help PSG reclaim the top spot.

PSG have comprehensively beaten Lens 2-1, with Neymar and Marquinhos firing in with goals.

Les Parisiens had to put behind their disappointing loss to Manchester City to gain back the winning momentum against Lens, who have been impressive in Ligue 1 this season.

Neymar led the attacking line after Kylian Mbappe, and Marco Verratti were rested considering the return leg against Man City, which will be played in the space of three days.

The Brazilian put on an impressive display, scoring the opening goal in the opening half before setting up for PSG’s second of the night at the hour mark, netted by his compatriot Marquinhos, who also scored in the UCL quarter-finals. Lens responded shortly after through Ganaho, but they were not good enough the trouble the defending champions for the rest of the game.

Neymar was low on confidence after a disappointing home leg against the Premier League leaders, but today’s performance must have handed him a much-needed momentum ahead of the second leg.

Furthermore, PSG have reclaimed the top spot for the time being as Lille would be the leaders once again to win their weekend fixture against Nice.

Mauricio Pochettino would be feeling the pressure to stay relevant in both Ligue 1 and Champions League as the Argentine manager is walking a thin line in both the competitions.

However, Pochettino’s objective would be towards the away leg at Etihad, where they will be tasked to overturn the 2-1 deficit.

The attacking trio of Neymar, Mbappe and Angel Di Maria would be the key, although they failed massively in the first leg.
