A total of five goals were scored in the final quarter however PSG emerged victorious in the end.

PSG sealed a thrilling 3-2 win against St Etienne after Mauro Icardi scored a last gasp goal.

Les Parisiens were coming after knocking defending champions Bayern Munich out in the Champions League quarter-finals and they hoped to carry the momentum against tenth-placed St Etienne.

Mauricio Pochettino opted for a second-string line-up, resting many of their key players barring Kylian Mbappe.

Perhaps, Les Parisiens were lackluster for the larger parts of the game as they struggled to break down the defence of St Etienne. On the other hand, the visitors also failed to make full use of the opportunities they had to punish PSG on counters.

Much to the PSG’s shock, St Etienne broke the deadlock in the 77the minute through Bouanga.

However, PSG went ahead of the visitors in no time after in-form Mbappe secured a brace.

But Pochettino’s men conceded the equaliser in the stoppage time and their chances of moving closer to the league leaders Lille looked almost over for the day.

However, the game witnessed a thrilling climax as super-sub Mauro Icardi headed Di Maria’s cross into the nets, thus handing PSG an important three points.

Substitution of Di Maria and Icardi changed the complexion of the game.

PSG, who almost looked apathetic for a longer duration, breathed a new life when Mauro Icardi and Angel Di Maria were subbed in.

Both combined to score the winning goal in the stoppage time, with Di Maria sporting his dribbling and creative skills and his Argentine compatriot Icardi being precise with the end product.
